Radix is proud to present two community singing events this summer, with support from a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC). We humans have been gathering to sing together for millennia; virtually every culture on earth has a communal singing tradition, and you can be part of one this summer! We hope you’ll join us in the cozy but air-conditioned theater at Artichoke Community Music for two beautiful evenings of song from the American folk tradition. We are thrilled to feature Portland folk artist and educator Leela Grace - who will share her passion for this music, and her insights into its rich history - as well as the singers of Radix, who will sing nice and loud so you can hear your part!
These events are designed to be inclusive, friendly, and fun. No prior musical or singing experience is required. Music will be taught by ear, the old-fashioned way. At each event, we will learn 2-4 songs together, with simple 3-part harmony as an option for those who are inclined. Song lyrics sheets and audio files will be available soon for those who want to learn the songs in advance (sign up below for our newsletter if you’d like to get updates), but if you just show up to check it out, you’ll be just fine.
Artichoke Community Music is ADA-accessible. Beverages and light snacks will be available for purchase at the cafe. (Because humans have been eating together even longer than they have been singing together!)
